  • SQL – you can’t be a data engineer without developing the fundamental SQL skills set as it’s necessary to work on relational database management systems.   
  • Data Warehousing – another essential skill is data warehousing, which allows you to aggregate unstructured data to improve business efficiency. 
  • Coding – learning enterprise languages like Java and C# would significantly advance your career in data engineering. These skills are needed to link databases and work with web, mobile, desktop, and IoT applications.   
  • Operating System – Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Solaris are the top operating systems that data engineers may want to be adept with. 
  • Apache Hadoop-Based Analytics – adding this open-source platform to your arsenal will help you work better with different operations, including data processing, access, storage, security, and governance.   
  • Machine Learning – while data scientists are the significant users of machine learning, developing this skill is vital. It will allow you to understand statistical analysis and data modeling better.   

Developing and mastering these skills take time, money, and energy. However, it’s all worth it in the end, as being a data engineer expands your horizons. It would also boost your earning potential. On average, a data engineer in the Philippines gets a monthly salary of Php120,000, enough to give you a comfortable lifestyle. Choices of the industry to work in are also vast, as almost every business or organization needs data engineers to run their operations smoothly, especially large entities.
