Arts and Sciences
CAS, as the college is commonly called, is the biggest college in the University of San Carlos in terms of number of programs offered. We aim to be one of the leading teaching and research institutions in the Philippines in the Sciences, Social Sciences, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Library and Information Science, Communication, Literature, and Humanities; and to be an excellent provider of specific courses that will enhance the curricular programs of other colleges in the University.
The College is dedicated to the holistic development of students, who should be committed to academic excellence, give value to the virtues of integrity and have a high sense of social responsibility – Scientia, Virtus, Devotio.
Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our curricular programs, both undergraduate and graduate, being recognized and accredited by PAASCU. Moreover, as an attest to the high quality of teaching, learning, and research in the college, CHEd awarded as Centers of Excellence our programs in Chemistry and Anthropology; and Centers of Development those of Biology, Physics, and Philosophy.
Our academic programs are research-oriented for students not only to learn the theoretical concepts but also demonstrate through research the search for answers and methods for the betterment of life, growth, and development. With state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities, our students are able to perform their skills in linking knowledge and practice. Together with the students are our faculty members who regularly produce high quality research outputs and are constantly involved in externally- funded research projects. The College is also the home of a number of faculty who have been recognized nationally and given distinguished awards for their significant contribution to society and the advancement of knowledge in their respective fields.
Further, students in our College not only excel in academics but also in sports and socio-cultural activities. They actively participate in various University events and activities and in their respective co-curricular organizations. Thus we also train our students in leadership and decision-making skills and develop them to be good leaders in their own community.
In the College of Arts and Sciences, we mold students’ minds, hearts, and character; applying a humanist and scientific approach in all our endeavors. To our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, I hope we have all imbibed the true spirit of a Carolinian - Scientia, Virtus, Devotio.
